King, Anthony Thomas of Hingham, Massachusetts, died suddenly and unexpectedly at his home on August 16, 2012. Adored husband and eternal soulmate of Jane L. Kreinsen-King. Cherished son of Mary T. (Boggan) King of Dorchester and the late Thomas M. King. Devoted brother of the late Maureen King of Princeton, New Jersey. Proud uncle of Catherine Martin of London, England, and Thailand, and Thomas N. Martin of London, England. Loving nephew of Mary Folan of Galway, Ireland, Barbara Marini of Arlington, Bridget Bradley of West Roxbury, Rita Boggan of Norfolk, England , and the late Patrick Boggan, Coleman King, Patrick King, and Margaret Flaherty. Survived by many wonderful cousins in the United States, Ireland, England, and France. Loving brother-in-law of Carolyn H. Kreinsen, M.D. of Marina Bay, Quincy, and of Suzanne A. Kreinsen and her husband Kevin W. Leary of Westwood, Massachusetts. Lifelong best friend of Paul Gallagher of Sarasota, Florida, and beloved honorary member of the entire extended, multi-generational, Gallagher family.
Tony was born in London, England, to his two incredible Irish parents, his mother Mary from Wexford and his father Thomas from Carraroe, Connemara, Galway. When he was in grade school, his family immigrated to the United States to Savin Hill, Dorchester. There he attended St. William’s School. He was a member of the acclaimed St. William’s Band. He then attended Mt. Carmel High School in Hamilton, Massachusetts. Tony earned his Bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University. Later, he earned two Master’s degrees, the first from Boston State College and the second from the University of Massachusetts at Boston. Always extremely hardworking, among other jobs, he worked at Fenway Park, Brigham’s Ice Cream, Jordan Marsh Company, and The Boston Globe. Later, he taught English at the Don Bosco High School in Boston and ultimately became the English Department Head there. Currently, Tony held the position of Director of Guidance for the Braintree Public Schools where he had been employed for the past thirty-five years. Dedicated to his work with young people, he was still an active counselor in addition to being an administrator. For many years he was a volunteer with the Office for Children. He was the recipient of numerous awards, notably the Laura Warcup Distinguished Educators Award from the Norfolk County Teachers Association. This past year he was the president of the South Shore Guidance Directors. He was a member of the National Education Association, Massachusetts Teachers Association, the Braintree Education Association, the Norfolk County Teachers Association, and the Massachusetts School Counselors Association. He particularly loved his association with FOCUS, a Catholic school counselors association. Tony was a talented cook and an avid reader. Tony was a parishioner at St. Agatha Church in Milton. With his deep-rooted humility, with his most gentle nature, with his extraordinary, unfailing kindness, and with his amazing ability to listen and to empathize with others, Tony truly showed each of us how this life should be led.
Dearest, loving Saint Anthony, most Sacred Heart of Jesus, and most merciful Mother of Perpetual Help, please pray for him and for all of his absolutely heartbroken survivors.
Visiting hours in the John J. O'Connor & Son Funeral Home, 740 Adams St. (near Gallivan Blvd) DORCHESTER, Monday 3-8pm. Funeral Mass in St. Agatha's Church, MILTON, Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Interment will be private.
If desired, donations may be made to Father Bill’s Place, 38 Broad Street, Quincy, Massachusetts 02169.

I am heart broken to hear of the loss of Mr. King. I do not what my last two years of high school would have been like without him; he took me in and offered me a safe space to be myself and be present with the confusion, conflict and even creativity that accompany those years... I felt safe with him. His kindness, support and ability to be fully present with me gave me strength and security. And let's not forget his sense of play- what a gift! I have not, nor will I forget any of the gifts that he gave me...
Ms. Kreinson, I am so sorry for your loss...much love to your family.

It is amazing how one person can have a profound ripple effect on the world. On Friday, the 17th, I was made aware of Tony''s passing from 3 different people - 2 through Facebook and 1 through word-of-mouth. Those Facebook postings were forwarded by another 12 people who, in turn, forwarded the news to their respective circle of friends. Tony King impacted each of these lives as much as he impacted mine.
I feel that Mr. King and I pulled off one of the biggest coups in Harvard University''s 376 year history. While I was a good high school student-athlete, I certainly could not have been considered "elite." To have been accepted into Harvard''s Class of 1996, however, I needed to be perceived as elite by the Admissions Board since they only accepted 12% of applicants that year. Mr. King was instrumental in doing that.
He coached me and hand-corrected my college applications and essays, he introduced me and helped me to be accepted into the Massachusetts Advanced Studies Program ("MASP") and he recommended my services to another student who needed tutoring help. Most importantly, he helped me to find my "hook" - the thing that differentiates one college applicant from another - by encouraging me to earn my Eagle Scout award with the Boy Scouts of America. On April 1, 1992, I learned that all of Tony King''s work paid off when I was notified that I earned 1 of the 1600 spots in the Class of 1996. Even after I was accepted and his work could have been considered complete, he helped me to apply for multiple scholarships to pay the hefty tuition bill.
Because of this opportunity, many doors have opened to me that would otherwise not have been opened, and I thank Tony King for that. Thank you Mr. King. Rest in peace.
Sincerely,
Brendan Sheehan

My heart is broken at the news of Tony's death. Jane, you and your entire family are in my prayers. Tony was the most gentile, humble and kind person. I consider him a key person in my life's path - always providing me the guidance and support to not only become a better school counselor, but a better person. He supported me professionally and, when necessary, personally through some difficult times. I will never forget the compassionate way he supported me when I suddenly resigned due to my cousin's sudden death. I cannot imagine BHS without Tony and I cannot imagine my inaugural 5 years as a counselor without Tony. I would not be the counselor I am today without Tony. He lives on in all of the lives that he profoundly impacted. I pray for Tony, for Jane and all of those who have lost a truly amazing man.

To all the King & extended family, you have my sincerest sympathies. Mr King was extraordinarily kind to myself & my son during his years at BHS. There was never an occasion when he didn't take the time to listen & offer support. Thank you to both Mr & Mrs King, Mike's homeroom teacher, for taking my son under your wings & molding him into the fine young man he is today. My heart goes out to you! God bless!

As we go through life, it is important to stop along the way and count our blessings. Mr. King is still at work in the town of Braintree as witnessed by all those, young and old, sharing their stories of respect and resulting successes with his loved ones these days. He was in the right place at the right time and those having personal contact with Tony King can''''t help but feel we''''ve been touched by an Angel. My prayers these days will be for Mr. King, his loving Mother, Wife and those who close to him. My prayers in the future will be to Mr. King not for, as I feel that his light has always shined brightest on those needing his help. God Bless!

I was quite saddened to hear of the loss of Tony and will always cherish the fond memories of time spent with him during my time at Braintree High School. Tony was kind enough to take me, along with a friend off his, to a couple of Red Sox games, my first visits to Fenway park were because of Tony's generous heart and spirit. His kindnessand listening ear during those years when my own mother was dying from cancer while in high school has left a forever imprint on my soul. Tony, you will never be forgotten by your family, friends, and those lives you deeply touched. thanks for making those difficult years more bearable.

I met Tony only once (via Christina), when we stayed with him in 1982, while travelling. He gave, without question, both space and hospitality to two strangers, with what was obviously his naturally open, kind and warm generosity; and all with such a lovely smile. Condolences and thoughts to you all.

Dear Jane and family,
I am so sorry and shocked to learn of Tony's sudden passing. He will be greatly missed in the BPS community. Tony always made time to help his students, staff, and me personally. My work at BHS was easier and more effective because of his practical assistance, problem-solving, and warmth and understanding of the needs of our students and special programs. My heart and prayers go out to you.

Dear Ms. Kreinsen-King,
I''''''''m so sorry to learn of the death of your husband, Tony. I''''''''m sure you are hearing many stories about how he helped the youngsters of Braintree and I would like to add to those stories - you see, in my house, I joke that Tony King "got me (the mother) through high school." My husband and I have three very different children - all helped by Mr. King, all in different ways. He was truly my "silent partner" during those years and I will be eternally grateful for his help, dedication and compassion.
I am so blessed to have known him and been deeply affected by his caring ways; yet, I can''''''''t help but feel sorry for other families who won''''''''t get that same chance.
Sincerely,
Gerry Maloney
