Rita M. HurleyFebruary 14, 2019
HURLEY, Rita M., lifelong resident of Neponset, passed peacefully on February 14, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Beloved daughter of the late Joseph B. & Mary E. (Doocey) Hurley. Cherished sister of John Hurley, Nancy H. Karis, Judith Hurley, Elizabeth Connell, the late Joseph P. Hurley, Arthur V. Hurley, James W. Hurley, Robert A. Hurley, and all of their loving families. Also survived by many loving and devoted nieces, nephews, and cousins.
After graduating from Dorchester High School, Rita attended Boston Clerical School. From there she launched her lifelong career with IBM in Computer Tech Support. At IBM’s Copley Square Office, Rita introduced groups of school children to a burgeoning phenomenon, the Personal Computer. Her rewarding IBM career culminated with Gold Watch acknowledgement and what became a long, happy retirement. Rita was proud and loyal to her roots. She was an active member of the Popes Hill Neighborhood Association, the Dorchester Historical Society, the Castle Island Association, and she highly cherished her membership in St. Ann's Parish. She loved her neighbors and things local, and when not busy at her yard work, she could often be spotted walking at Pleasure Point, or in summertime, at Tenean Beach. In later years, Rita’s daily routine included a trip to Adams Corner o chat with friends, then to Gerard's for a newspaper and lottery tickets, and off to Greenhills Bakery for a large coffee and 2 half-moons to go. She was hailed, and warmly greeted wherever she went.
RIP, Dear Rita.
