SHALLOW-In Dorchester, May 8, 2022 Edward P. Shallow Jr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Devoted Husband of Ella G. (Lynds). Loving Father of Patricia Shallow-Small and her husband Norman, the late Edward P. Shallow III, Thomas and his wife Melinda, Pamela Stafford and her husband Joseph, Timothy and his wife Rita, Kenneth, Cynthia Hovda and her husband Craig, and Robert and his fiancé Taylor. Also survived by many beloved grandchildren Jacquelynn, Matthew, Shane, Timothy, Jessica, Joseph, Dale, Hannah, Samuel, Ella, Julia, Samantha and great grandchildren Arianah and Aliah as well as nephew, Michael Ferreira. Preceded in death by his parents Edward P. Shallow and Beatrice LaCourse and sisters Edna and Kathleen.
Ed (Sonny) was born December 13, 1932 of the late Beatrice and Edward Shallow whom they spoiled rotten. He was a family man, writer, advocate, music lover of Vaughn Monroe and big band. Next to his family his greatest honor in life was serving in the United States Army. Ed served in the military 1953-1955. He was sent to Indian Town Gap military reservation for advanced infantry training for 16 weeks (Basic combat training + Advanced Individual Training). He attained the second highest score as a sharpshooter with the M1 Rifle which General Patton said was one of the best infantry weapons ever made at the time. He also served in the 2nd Armored Division the same division General Patton served in which was dubbed “Hell on Wheels”. Ed traveled on the USS Butner in 1953 for 10 days in July to Germany, was promoted to Sargent in 1954 and returned on the USS General Taylor which took 15 days in February.
Dad loved the saying: “Old soldiers never die they just fade away.”

Visiting hours in the John J. O'Connor & Son Funeral Home, 740 Adams St. (near Gallivan Blvd.) DORCHESTER, Wednesday from 4-8 pm. Funeral Mass in St. Ann's Church, NEPONSET, Thursday at 10 o'clock. Relative and friends are respectfully invited. Interment in Massachusetts National Cemetery, BOURNE at 2 p.m.
