I’m so sorry to hear of Uncle Ed’s passing. We use to keep in touch thru phone calls and cards. Sorry to say I had not heard from him in the last ten years. He was the best, as you all know. My Dad was John Walsh. He would always bring me to Auntie Dotties and Uncle Ed’s in my younger years...when I was visiting from Maine. Auntie Dotties would have us cousins sit under the Christmas tree that had angle hair on it and we would all itch. For hours. Fun times I had visiting everyone. When I had two kids, he gave us tickets to the Red Sox’s and then meet us at the game with a bag of goodies. His South Boston roots made him a true Irish men... working at Gillette, police force, card shop and then always helping others. Uncle Ed will be missed. Prayers to the family. Kathleen, he always knew you and the kids would take good care of him. ,

I am so sorry for the loss of Uncle Eddie. He was a cherished member of the McKenna family. We loved his visits to 636 South Ave Whitman and all his stories of getting the bad guys. Larger than life but such a love bug. Always a kiss & tuck some quarters in our hands. My Mother, Teenie just loved him so, he always checked on her and any family members in need.
We had wonderful times down at your cape house. Years later he would hang out at my store with my Mom & Dad and "shoot the breeze" So long for now Uncle Eddie, Til we meet again.

My only connection to your family is through Kelly. She just gushed with praise for her Dad., making me think of our daughters and how proud Ed must have been of their defense of family..

I, too, am a widower and thinking of joining my wife in heaven makes me smile. Ed is very happy, right now. It does not ease your pain, but it will, in time.

God Bless Ed and your family.

Ed Walsh was known by many for his legendary career in Boston law enforcement.. And he was equally as legendary as a father, grandfather and great-grandfather. For us in New Haven he was, for the last decade of his life, an important and inspiring part of our community. He lived on Chapel Street with Leo and Kathleen, was part of The St Thomas More Chapel at Yale, worked at its soup kitchen and enjoyed seeing all of us from his post on the front porch reading and, most importantly, sharing his experiences with us. Ed checked all the boxes. He showed us how to do it the right way.

My prayers go out to the Walsh family. Eddie Walsh was my uncle and aside from all his praise he had a huge heart. He was Godfather to my brother Stephen who was born with Cystic Fibrosis. As a child not knowing the full extent of his disease I used to be jealous of my brother. He went out of his and then some to make Stephen feel special. He always made a big deal about seeing Stephen. We also got to share in the thrill of getting items in the house like Bobby Orr’s, signed by the whole team, stick and other nice such gifts that were for him. As I got older and understood our situation, I’ve admired and loved Eddie for the way he treated my late brother. He was so loved by our family. My mother was the youngest sister of his late wife, our Aunt Dottie. A great man.

I’m so terribly saddened by this news. Eddie “ the father” was a big influence in my life. Eddie “the son”, I send my most heartfelt condolences to you and the family. Your father was definitely a legend in the Boston Police and we were better people for knowing him. God bless.

I am so sad to hear about Mr. Walsh's passing (Big Eddie to my mother,) Everyone should be lucky enough to have neighbors like Dottie and Eddie. After my dad died,, Mr. Walsh shoveled the sidewalk, took the barrels in and out, repaired the lawn and the walkway, He and Dottie took my mother to doctor's appointments, and to Bickford's for waffles and to Sullivan's for hot dogs. He performed similar acts of kindness for other neighbors. He was one of the kindest, most generous and thoughtful people I've ever met. He leaves behind a wonderful legacy. My deep condolences to the entire Walsh family from the '55' Walshes Billy, Teresa and Diane.
