Mrs. Eleanor (Tierney) Harden, age 101, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, July 12, 2020, at her residence in Smyrna, TN.  

She was born August 9, 1918, in Dorchester, MA, a daughter of the late Edward and Molly Tierney, and sister to Edward (Sonny), Paul, Jimmy, Bobby, and Walter. 

Eleanor is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Harden) Finnegan, Marie (Harden) Mooney, and her son, George Harden and wife Lorraine.  She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. 

Eleanor was a prolific crocheter and, in her later years, ensured every granddaughter and great granddaughter had their very own afghan! She also spent many years as a supervisor in the Business Office at University Hospital, Boston, MA. 

Eleanor was preceded in death by her loving husband, and dance partner, George Harden in 1969.  Eleanor and her husband, George, were award winning ballroom dancers in their younger years at the Riverview Ballroom in Dorchester, MA. This love of dance is carried on by her 3 children,and a number of both grandchildren and great grandchildren.  We know that she and George are now dancing together once again. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made in memory of Eleanor to the charity of your choice.


A private memorial service will be held on Tuesday July 21, 2020. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery, in West Roxbury, following the service.
