Evelyn Louise John, 88, of Dorchester MA passed away on January 14, 2023 following a brave battle with Ovarian cancer.
Evelyn was born in Boston on December 15, 1935, daughter of Walter and Delia (Maloney) John. She leaves her sister, Carol John Bramblett of New Hampshire, two nieces, Jill and Amanda Bramblett and two nephews, Stephen and Kenneth Kirby. She was pre-deceased by an older sister, Marguerite Kirby and nephew Brian Kirby, formerly of Buffalo NY.
Having graduated with highest honors and numerous awards from Jamaica Plain High School, Evelyn went on to a lifelong career at The First National Bank of Boston, then under the leadership of William Smith, Vice President, she became an officer of the bank and retired after 40 years.
Evelyn was an avid student of American History, showing unsurpassed patriotism always. She was a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox and earlier the Boston Braves, throughout her life. She will also be remembered for her generous support of numerous charities throughout her later years. As a lover of traveling, she was proud of both her German and Irish heritage, having traveled to both countries meeting many relatives who still reside in the “Old Country”. Her love of traveling also included Lido Beach in Sarasota, Florida and Stowe, Vermont where the Von Trapp Lodge was among her favorite vacation places each August. Her faithful, dependable ways will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Visiting hours in the John J. O’Connor & Son Funeral Home, 740 Adams St. (near Gallivan Blvd.) DORCHESTER, Wednesday January 25, 2023 from 4-8 pm. Funeral Mass in St. Brendan’s Church on Thursday morning, January 26, 2023 at 10 o’clock. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Interment in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
