Gerald R. Brown, 75, of Dorchester died on Dec. 10 at Tufts Medical Center in Boston after a long illness. He was born in Boston on Sept. 6,1946 to the late Stanley W. and Shirley (Horne) Brown. Mr. Brown grew up in Roslindale and attended Norfolk County Agricultural H.S. Over the years he worked as a florist in and around Dorchester. Later, for many years, he worked as a concierge to the delight of the guests of the Ritz Hotel in Boston. He was renowned for his award-winning garden, and enjoyed frequent vacations in Puerto Rico, especially after he retired.
Mr. Brown leaves behind his brother, Richard and his wife Julia and their four children, Rebecca, Emily, Jeffrey and Madeline of Glastonbury, CT. Also, Mr. Brown was predeceased by his brother, Stanley H. Mr. Brown is survived by Stanley’s wife, Gail of Milford, MA. and their four children: Robert and his wife Deborah and their children Duncan and Caleb, of Wellesley, MA.; Kenneth of Myrtle Beach, S.C,. and his daughter, Amanda; Stephen of Renton, WA, and his children Samantha,, Matthew, and Allie; Susan O’Carroll and her husband Donal of N.C.
A wake will be held on Tuesday, Dec.14 from 10-11am followed by a service at the John J. O’Connor & Son Funeral Home, 740 Adams St., Dorchester. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Mr. Brown‘s name to the Animal Rescue League of Boston, 10 Chandler St., Boston MA 02116.
