CAVANAUGH - Richard J. “Dick” Cavanaugh, age 78, of Dorchester passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 13, 2022. He was the beloved son of the late Richard P. and Helen V. (Collard) Cavanaugh. Loving brother of John W. Cavanaugh of Dorchester and Theresa M. Carney of Natick. He is also survived by many dear and loving friends and relatives.
Richard served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. While in the Navy he was a Dental Technician. After the military Richard was employed for over 40 years with the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority. His home, street and neighborhood was very near and dear to his heart. He loved showing his patriotism by flying the American flag. He enjoyed watching all kinds of movies and especially the classics. He also loved watching the TV game and quiz shows and playing the card game Pokeno. He was an avid nature lover and bird watcher enthusiast. He was very happy when he would see Robins, Blue Jays, and Cardinals in his yard.
Funeral services will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 24th at the John J. O’Connor & Son Funeral Home, 740 Adams St., Dorchester at 12:00 pm. Interment in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester. Relatives and friends are respectively invited to attend.
Visiting hours will be held from 11 am - 12 pm prior to the service.
