Obituary

Clegg, Stephen J. of Neponset, Dorchester, died on September 3, 2021 in is 85th year.  Son of the late Thomas E. and Eleanor (nee Gartland) Clegg.  Brother of the late Thomas E. of S. Weymouth, John G. of Westwood, Mary Jane Powers of Colorado, and Ellenor Kim of Wisconsin.  Beloved Uncle of over twenty Nephews and Nieces.  Stephen was a life-long member of Saint Ann Parish, Neponset, where he served as Lector, Parish Pastoral Council Member, member of the Parish adult choir for over 30 years and religious education instructor for 26 years.  Stephen was Executive Assistant to several Directors of the City of Boston Office of Human Resources.  He also served as Director of Classification and Compensation.  In the Boston Public Works Department he was Senior Personnel Officer for 18 years.  A Vietnam Era veteran of the US Army, he served as a Medical Record Specialist in the Army Medical Detachment at the US Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia.  Later he served as an Administrative Supply Technician with the Massachusetts Army National Guard, Company A, 101st Infantry in Dorchester.  Stephen was among the founding members of the New Neponset Players of Dorchester and was president for two years.  He was also a member of the Richard J Murphy Community School Council.  He was a member of the Board of Directors at Catholic Courage Apostolate in the Archdiocese of New York.  Member of the John P McKeon Amvets Post, Old Dorchester American Legion Post, and a life member of the Massachusetts Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company.   He graduated cum laude from Boston State College in 1974.  His years of community service include 15 years as Secretary of the Neponset Line Club, Night Manager at Pope’s Hill Convenience Store and Brand Ambassador for CA Courtesy Demonstrations of Andover.  Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a mass of Christian Burial at Saint Ann’s Church, 241 Neponset Avenue, Dorchester, MA on Tuesday, September 14th at 10:00 am. Interment will be at a later date.
