We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at John J. O'Connor & Son Funeral Home
BRACKETT, William J. “Billy” of Falmouth, formerly of Dorchester, passed away on October 12, 2021. Beloved husband of 49 years of Elizabeth “Betty” (Ford) Brackett. Loving father of Brendan Brackett and his wife Joan of Pelham, NH, and Lauren Brackett of Dorchester. Adoring grandfather (Pipa) to Connor Brackett. Cherished brother of Kathleen DeMita & her husband Joseph of Reading. Dear uncle of Kathryn, Jacquelyn, Joseph, Tracy, Cheryl, Michael, Sandra, Bobby, Richard, John, Mary, Jimmy, and William. Loving cousin of Ann-Marie Amendolare of Braintree. Best Friend to Danny Sweeney, Bob McNamara, Bob Murray, and Eddie O’Brien. He is survived by many loving cousins and friends.
Billy served as Lt. for the MBTA Police and retired after 30 years of service. He was founder and past president of the MBTA Police Retirement Association as well as the past president of the Cedar Grove Civic Association. He was a former president of St. Brendan’s CYO basketball and inducted into the CYO Hall of Fame.
Billy was always proud of his Dorchester roots, his Catholic Memorial education, but mostly of his dear “Betts”, children, and Connor. He was an avid golfer whose love for the game began as a caddy at the then Wollaston Golf Course (now President’s) & continued throughout his life. He enjoyed practicing as much as playing & was a member of several men’s groups on Cape Cod as well as Sonny’s Adams Village Tuesday League. He was also a USA golf official. Billy had the Irish gift of gab and always found a friend or acquaintance in a crowd. He had the uncanny ability to make quick connections between people and places. He would double over with laughter at the drop of a hat. He will be sorely missed and his absence is already felt by those who knew and loved him.
